Argumentative Essay Topics - The Tobacco Industry and SmokersArgumentative essay topics should consider how the tobacco industry and cigarette companies have manipulated public opinion in an attempt to restrict smoking. The paper then asks the reader to analyze and debate the 'consensus' view as expressed by medical, political and scientific experts, especially when facts are not held accountable. If a smoking ban is allowed to take effect, this will prevent millions of people from taking up the habit and save the many lives it has taken from being lost. Do you agree with this argument?
Evidence supporting these claims is mostly sourced from government research and journals and the contributions of scientists from industry and academia. There is no doubt that cigarette smoking is unhealthy, but evidence exists to show that it does not cause death or disease. Therefore, there are several groups opposing the idea of a smoking ban; the arguments put forward by these groups are not founded in the evidence.
However, the same medical evidence has also shown that smoking leads to cancer and heart disease and that cigarette smoke contains a number of carcinogens. These same groups also have links to cancer, including lung cancer, although the links are less strong than those of cancer caused by smoking.
There is also the more 'emotional' side of scientific evidence supporting the banning of smoking. Smoking has no fun, and the smoker or the non-smoker suffers, literally and figuratively, from the ill effects of cigarette smoke. Each of us has certain specific health issues and there may be something from these conditions that are exacerbated by smoking.
In fact, smoking is not even as bad for our bodies as we imagine. It is widely accepted that smoking provides a 'medicinal'spiritual' experience that is very positive, and that smokers can be treated with vitamins and minerals and to recover from diseases and stress. The same medical studies in government-funded universities that show cigarette smoking to be not that bad for you are also the ones that show that cigarettes and tobacco are wonderful for our bodies and that smoking can prevent a lot of diseases.
This brings us to the second part of the argument: the fact that cigarette smoking is not as bad for our bodies as we think, because it prevents illness and disease and preserves the body's beauty. Tobacco smoke is a cleanser and a freshener for the respiratory system.
Second-hand smoke, in particular, has been proven to be harmful and can cause several cancers and illnesses in people who smoke. We have to admit that we do inhale a lot of chemicals and irritants every time we smoke a cigarette, but what we inhale does not necessarily do us any harm.
The effects of smoking, whether in its harmful and socially injurious effects or in its beneficial effects are all a matter of opinion. An argumentative essay should be able to show why smoking does not do us any harm, and why smoking bans are unjustified.
